TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Depok City Government plans to build a railroad-based transportation to beat the traffic problems in its city. Depok Government wants to make 4 corridor lines that are connected with Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) because it is directly adjacent to Jakarta.

"This discourse is scientific because it is based on a feasibility study conducted by the experts," said Depok Mayor, Mohammad Idris in Depok, Thursday, January 30, 2020.

Idris then stated that Depok Government only issued and adopted policies if it was scientifically possible. To support the discourse, he has met with the Transportation Minister and discussed the rail-based transportation.

"Actually, I met with the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Transportation regarding the transportation and traffic problems. But at the same time I proposed a feasibility study for rail-based transportation to be studied," he said.

According to Idris, based on a study of railroad feasibility conducted by Depok Transportation Agency (Dishub), four corridor lines will be built to connect to other modes of transportation. The establishment of these 4 corridors is expected to tackle the traffic problem in Depok.

The four corridors, namely corridor 1, which is about 10.8 kilometers long, starts from the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Pondok Cina to Cibubur LRT Station. Corridor 2, which is about 16.7 kilometers long, starts from TOD Depok Baru to Cinere and expected to be connected to Lebak Bulus MRT Station. Corridor 3, about 10.7 kilometers long, will starts from TOD Depok Baru to Bojongsari, and corridor 4, about 13.8 kilometers long, starts from TOD Depok Baru to TOD Gunung Putri.

Idris hopes that this project can be designated as a National Strategy Project (PSN) and also to be realized and can get assistance from the Ministry of Transportation.

Idris then explained the ideas, productive proposals, and suggestions were delivered in a focused dialog between the Depok City Government and the Ministry of Transportation along with its stakeholders. Therefore, this project is hoped to be a solution for tackling traffic congestion in Depok.
