TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) has asked President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to also remove Minister of Law of Human Rights Yasonna Laoly from his position, following the Immigration Director-general Ronny Sompie's removal.

"It would be better for Yasonna Laoly to also be removed by President Jokowi," said ICW researcher, Kurnia Ramadhana, in a written statement on Tuesday, January 28, 2020.

Kurnia went on to say that Yasonna, as the supreme authority in the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham), has spoken about the whereabouts of Harun Masiku against the facts. Harun Masiku, a former Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) legislative candidate, is now a fugitive sought after by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

“So Yasonna should also be accountable for the conditions today," Kurnia said.

According to Kurnia, Yasonna’s error was grave. Law enforcement work, he said, became disrupted as they simply believed the minister's statement.

Previously, Yasonna cited Ronny's removal from office was related to the formation of an independent team tasked on the Harun Masiku case. "So that there is no conflict of interest in the independent team, I have already functionalized the Directorate General of Immigration," he said on Tuesday, January 28, 2020.

Yasonna claimed that he had appointed Inspector General Jhoni Ginting to carry out the duties of the Director-General of Immigration. "I want this team to be able to work independently in the investigation, so I functioned the Directorate General of Immigration," he said.

Harun Masiku is a suspect in the bribery case of Wahyu Setiawan, a Commissioner in the General Elections Commission (KPU). Ever since his naming as a suspect by the KPK on January 9, Harun’s whereabouts remain unknown.

The Immigration Office said Harun went to Singapore on January 6 and has not returned. However, Tempo discovered the fact that Harun had returned on January 7, 2020. This finding has also been strengthened by statements from Harun’s wife.

Upon this discovery, officials under the Directorate General of Immigration admitted that Harun Masiku was already in Indonesia.

Minister Yasonna Laoly, who is also a cadre of the PDIP, denied allegations suggesting that he intentionally provided misleading information regarding Harun Masiku's whereabouts during the sting operation that arrested Wahyu Setiawan, on January 8.
