Immigration DG Ronny Sompie Fired over Harun Masiku Case

January 28, 2020 | 05:50 pm

TEMPO.CO, JakartaDirector-General of Immigration of the Legal and Human Rights Ministry, Ronny Sompie, has been officially dismissed from his position following the conflicting information on the whereabouts of PDIP politician, Harun Masiku.

Legal and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly said that the dismissal was aimed at preventing conflicts of interest. "[It takes effect] per this afternoon," Yasonna stressed.

Ronny was inaugurated as the Immigration Director-General by Yasonna in mid-August 2015.

Recently, the Directorate General of Immigration attracted the public spotlight due to the graft case that incriminated the PDIP legislative candidate Harun Masiku and the General Election Commission or KPU former chief Wahyu Setiawan.

The Immigration office had announced that Harun left for Singapore during the series of sting operations carried out by the anti-graft body KPK, in which arresting Wahyu Setiawan.

Meanwhile, Tempo Magazine’s January 18 edition revealed that Harun had returned to Indonesia on January 7 when the KPK held the operation on January 8. Harun's wife also confirmed that her husband had returned home.

The findings prompted the Immigration office to acknowledge that Harun Masiku was already in Indonesia, claiming there was a system error at the airport’s data which caused the information delay.
