Ridwan Kamil Announces Upcoming Festivals in West Java

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, announced that there will be thousands of festivals held throughout 2020. The festivals will took place at every district and regency level in West Java.

Amongst the plenty festivals, the West Java government highlighted 167 festivals that are considered to be the leading tourism agenda. "This festival is to strengthen the tourism economy in West Java," said Ridwan Kamil after the inauguration of West Java Calendar of Event and Festival 2020 at the Trans Luxury Hotel in Bandung, on Wednesday, January 20, 2020.

Ridwan Kamil explained in detail that the 167 festivals includes 107 cultural festivals, six music festivals, 23 sport festivals, five fashion festivals, 10 culinary festivals, and 16 exhibitions.

Out of the 167 festivals, below are five selected by Tempo:

  1. Asia Afrika Festival in Bandung

This festival will take place on April 11, 2020, in Bandung starting from 08:00 AM. The event will adopt two concepts. The first will be the Asia Africa Expo (Thematic Culture), and the second will be the Asia-Africa Cultural Parade adopting the theme "The Harmony of Asia Africa."

  1. Cap Go Meh Event in Bogor

This celebration will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2020, starting from Jalan Suryakencana to Jalan Siliwangi, Bogor. The event will feature a marching band, a parade of the arts and culture of the archipelago and the world, marawis, and lion dance performance.

  1. Hardfest Pesona Jatigede in Sumedang

The Hardfest Pesona Jatigede was held last year on March 23, 2019. The festival was held under the concept of Trail Adventure and showcased the richness of West Javanese cultural arts through a large group performance of traditional art kuda renggong (renggong horse). During the festival, thousands of motorcrossers were present and attempted to conquer a 90-kilometer track while enjoying the natural beauty of Sumedang.

  1. Cirebon Arts and Culture Festival in Cirebon

Cirebon Ganjene Culture and Arts Festival will take place in the old town of Cirebon in August 2020.

  1. Gebyar Pesona of Garut Culture in Garut

This event will be scheduled on April 4, 2020, starting at 08:00 AM. Last year, Gebyar Peson of Garut Culture event was enlivened by record-breaking attempt of mass performance of Celentung Bambu traditional musical instruments by 206 people, performance from the children with special needs community, and a colossal dance performance by 350 dancers.
