TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Aviation observer and member of the Indonesian Ombudsman, Alvin Lie, said that the new CEO of Garuda Indonesia must focus on restoring the company's image. According to Alvin, the public trust in the state-owned airline had been destroyed due to a number of problems that had implicated the management lately.

"The old directors were fired due to their involvements in negative cases, the company's image and reputation are damaged," Alvin told Tempo on Wednesday, January 22.

The new CEO of the state airline will be set today, Wednesday, January 22, in an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders.

Alvin said that management must maintain the credibility of Garuda Indonesia as a public company.

In addition to cleaning up the company's tarnished image, Alvin asked Garuda Indonesia as a public company to develop potential and long-term businesses.

"Garuda Indonesia must also implement good corporate governance or GCG," he said.

I Gusti Ngurah Askhara Danadiputra or Ari Askhara was fired for allegedly smuggling illegal cargo. The shareholders meeting today will also appoint four new directors.
