TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Police set two water cannons and some tactical vehicles to maintain the safety of the two protesters that planned to hold a demonstration in front of City Hall DKI Jakarta on Tuesday, January 14, 2020.

The protests, held by two opposite masses; pros and cons with Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, were held to highlight the New Year flood handling in the capital city.

Deputy Chief of Central Jakarta Police, Assistant Commissioner Susatyo, said his side will insulate these two masses to avoid them meet in front of City Hall. "Two water cannons were set to separate these two masses," said Susatyo in Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday, January 14, 2020.

About 700 police personnel were deployed to guards the action in front of the governor's office. He hoped that the mass can convey their aspirations in an orderly manner and maintain safety.

"Protest is not prohibited, just don't break the rules. We urge they can do it properly" he said.

Sisca Rumondor, from the organization that is against the governor, considered Anies was not capable of handling the flood in the capital city. She and the other participants urged Anies to step down as the governor.

Meanwhile, the organization that supports Anies Baswedan spread posters calling the people to join the action in front of City Hall.

"We support the governor to continue flood mitigation programs," said Fahira Idris, Chairperson of Bang Japar community that also joined today's action.
