New Year's Day Flood Death Toll Increases to 67 Says BNPB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) announced that the death toll of the recent flood and landslide that occurred in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi has risen to 67 people.

"The number of deaths has increased from 60 to 67 people as of January 6, 2020," said BNPB's Chief of Disaster Information and Communication Data Center Agus Wibowo on Monday, January 6, 2020.

Agus explained that five people were reported dead in Tangerang, one person died in Bogor's refugee camps while one person that was initially reported lost, was discovered by the Search and Rescue team dead in the area of Lebak District.

The seven victims are:

  1. Aceng Ismail (52/Male) Tangerang City
  2. Nining (75/Female) Tangerang City
  3. Rosdiana (60/Female) Tangerang City
  4. Fatir (14/Male) Tangerang City
  5. John Andreas (14/Male) Tangerang City
  6. Emah (65/Female) Bogor Regency
  7. Rizki (7/Male) Lebak Regency.

One person is reported missing to this day at Lebak.

Furthermore, BNPB announced that the flood heights in Bekasi, Bogor, and West Jakarta ranged from 20 cm to 150 cm. Despite the receding floodwaters, the number of refugees increased to 917 people adding up to a total of 36,419 refugees.
