UPDATE: New Year's Day Flood Death Toll Rises to 43

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) announced the death toll due to the deadly floods in Jakarta and its surrounding satellite cities has grown to 43.

Wednesday’s flash floods were spread across multiple areas in the Capital, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, and Banten. Out of six cases, the deaths were mainly attributed to being swept by strong flood currents and landslides.

The following are the detailed number of flood victims based on BNPB’s website:

  1. Central Jakarta: 1
  2. West Jakarta: 1
  3. East Jakarta: 7
  4. Depok City : 3
  5. Bekasi City: 3
  6. Bogor City: 1
  7. Tangerang City: 1
  8. South Tangerang City: 1
  9. Bogor District: 16
  10. Bekasi District: 1
  11. District of Lebak: 8

From the number, as many as 17 people were sept by flood current, 12 were buried in the landslide, 5 were electrocuted, 3 were suffered hypothermia, 5 are still in the data collection, and one is missing.
