TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) together with the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), and Military, are set to utilize weather modification technology (TMC) to anticipate future floods due to extreme rainfall.

The three state-agencies will mobilize two aircraft, CN295 and Casa, in the weather modification attempt. BNPB chief of communication and information said that the strategy is meant to accelerate the rainfall decline over areas that are not populated.

“The rain will later be dropped over Sunda Strait or Lampung,” said Agus in a press release on Thursday, January 2.

However, he reminded, the clouds carrying rain will be forced to expend rainfall over reservoirs such as Jatiluhur and Jatigede if winds blow to the East.

The Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts heavy rainfall is expected to continue from December 31 to January 1, 2020, which caused widespread floods across a number of regions in the Jakarta Greater Area (Jabodetabek).
