TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State electricity company PLN has turned off the electricity in 724 locations in Jakarta and its greater area that are affected by the flood since 09:30 this morning, January 1, 2020. PLN Jakarta general manager Ikhsan Asaad said the blackout was executed to anticipate the electric shock.

“We apologize for the inconvenience and hope for the understanding of the people living in the area affected by the blackout or near the flood location. This has to be done for the safety of the people affected by the flood,” he said in the official statement, Wednesday, January 1, 2020.

The locations affected by the blackout incude Karet Pasar Baru Barat, Kedoya Utara, Tanjung Duren, Pancoran, Pejaten Timur, Jati Petamburan. As well as Billy Moon 3 residence, Pondok Kelapa, Jalan Kebon Jeruk Raya, Jati Bening housing complex, and Daan Mogot (Kalideres).

Other locations are Swadarma Raya, Jalan Pos Pengumben, Jalan Sektor Ciledug, Jalan Bangka Kemang, Duta Indah Square, Taman Bougenville residence, Taman Wiana Jatibening residence, and Pinewood Wibawamukti residence.

Iksan called on the people affected by the flood to turn off electric power from Meter Circuit Breaker (MCB) to avoid electric shock. The society was also asked to pull-out all electrical equipment that is still connected to the socket.

“Place the electrical equipment to higher and safer spots. If the power is still connected, immediately call Contact Center 123, reach PLN Mobile app or nearest PLN office for the blackout,” Iksan said.

The public was also appealed to make sure the electrical equipment was in a dry condition before usage once the flood receded, as well as making sure the power distribution to be done safely.

PLN Vice President Public Relations Dwi Suryo Abdullah previously said that the blackout may also be implemented in other locations outside of Jakarta. “We’re monitoring the condition,” he said.
