MRT Jakarta Operates Normally amid Flood

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mass transportation MRT Jakarta operates normally amid flooding at several locations in the capital city today, January 1, 2020.

It is monitored that not many passengers boarding the train, unlike regular days. The duration of the trip from MRT’s Lebak Bulus station until Bundaran HI also performs normally at lesser than 30 minutes.

The transportation company previously predicted that a surge of passengers using Ratangga train will reach 120,000 people on New Year’s Day, especially at Bundaran HI station.

“It will probably be more than 110,000 passengers. Well, at around 110,000 until 120,000 passengers,” said MRT corporate secretary Muhammad Kamaluddin on Tuesday, December 31, 2019.

It is predicted that the surge of passengers will be around 30 percent on New Year’s Day from the total of daily passengers at 93,000 in December 2019.

To maximize the service for the passengers, MRT Jakarta opens the opportunity for volunteers to help serve the public. “There are 32 additional volunteers at passenger gate areas for New Year’s Eve as anticipation to maintain MRT’s service,” Kamaluddin remarked.
