TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The chief of the National Police’s criminal investigation agency (Bareskrim), Comr. Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, confirmed that the suspects who were nabbed in Novel Baswedan's acid attack case were active police members.

“Yes, [the suspects are] active policemen,” said Listyo Sigit Prabowo on Friday, December 27.

The attack against Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) senior investigator Novel Baswedan happened on April 11, 2017, which left Novel with severe permanent damage to his left eye.

Suspicions regarding the attackers’ status as police members were also voiced by Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) coordinator Neta S. Pane.

“IPW obtained A1 information that the alleged suspects who attacked Novel Baswedan are members of the police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) stationed in Kelapa Dua, Depok. One suspect is a brigadier who attacked Novel Baswedan with a mix of car battery acid and water he prepared beforehand,” said Neta in a press release on Friday, December 27.
