TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Islamic Front Defender (FPI) planned to stage a solidarity act for Uighur Muslim minorities on Friday, December 27, under a theme of #IndonesiaStandsWithUyghur.

“Yes, it is true,” the FPI spokesman Munarman confirmed on Tuesday, December 24.

The event will kick off after Friday prayer in the Chinese Embassy at 1 p.m. Referred to the circulated banner, FPI called on people to join a mass Friday prayer which will be established around the area.

Munarman said the act, which will be led by Abdul Qodir Aka and a spokesman Ali Al Athas, is aimed at protesting the Chinese government that allegedly persecuted Muslim minorities in Xinjiang.

According to Munarman, FPI did not have high hopes that Indonesia will defend Uighur, let alone take action against the alleged persecution.

Previously, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko said the Indonesian government would not intervene in other countries’ affairs.

“Each country has its jurisdiction to manage its own citizens. So the government will not interfere with China's home affairs,” he asserted at his office, Monday, December 23.
