TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A man identified as S, 40-year-old, was shot dead by Jakarta Metro Police narcotics sub-directorate unit officer on Thursday, December 5. The suspected illegal drug dealer was fired at his rented house on Jalan Plumpang, Koja, North Jakarta.

“The bullet hit his back and went through,” said Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus at Kramatjati Police Hospital, East Jakarta, Friday, December 6.

Yusri explained that S was rushed to the hospital after getting the shot, but died on the way. According to Yusri, the shooting was already in compliance with the police's standard operating procedure. The police had released warning shots before shooting S’ back.

S was nabbed as he was suspected of being a drug dealer after the police discovered pieces of evidence, such as bongs and pipettes in his room. “There is an indication that he is a dealer,” Yusri added.

When arrested, S reportedly admitted to getting crystal meth from someone called Papi. He was not cooperative as the police questioned him about Papi to develop the case.

“The suspect attacked the officers and tried to escape,” Yusri said.

Yusri said S had served jail time for four years at Cipinang Penitentiary for drug dealing. After he was released, S was arrested again over drug abuse. “He had been rehabilitated at Pondok Karisma,” Yusri said, adding that the police were still tracking down Papi.
