TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Military Commander (Pangdam Jaya) Maj. General Eko Margiyono said that Sergeant Major (Serma) Fajar Arisworo sustained severe injuries to his left hand due to the powerful blast from what is believed to be a smoke grenade discovered earlier today in the Monas area.

“Fajar possibly sustained severe injuries to his left hand because he held the grenade with that hand,” said Eko in today’s press conference on Tuesday, December 3.

Reports state that Fajar is reportedly still well and awake after the incident where he was seen injured in a viral video that spread in social media not long after the blast.

Other than sergeant Fajar, another victim of the explosion was Senior Airman Gunawan, who sustained minor injuries in his arm and leg due to the sparks coming off the grenade.

Both military members were undergoing routine exercise at the Monas area, they were joined with other personnel from the Garyap 1 Jakarta Command Headquarters.
