TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spokesman for the Jakarta military command (Kodam Jaya) Lieutenant Colonel Czi Zulhandrie S. Mara asserts that the smoke grenade blast that injured two TNI members in Monas today was not an attack.

“There were no attackers,” he confirmed in a phone interview on Tuesday, December 3.

According to him, the smoke grenade - which origins are still being investigated - reportedly suddenly exploded and injured the two members of the national armed forces (TNI); Serma Fajar and Praka Gunawan.

According to ANTARA news agency, the explosive device was found by the two victims while they were jogging in the area of Monas with fellow army Garnisun personnel. The two found a plastic bag that contained the grenade.

Unfortunately, the grenade exploded as the plastic bag was picked up by the victims who are currently under the medical care of the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital (RSPAD).
