TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) Head Spokesman Insp. Gen. Mohammad Iqbal said that National Police Chief General Idham Azis’ call for personnel to not boast a lavish lifedata-style adheres to the institution’s function as a community protector.
“Because police members are protectors for the community. This includes every level of society, which [police members] must empathize with,” said Iqbal at police’s Criminal investigation Agency Headquarters today.
He further said that police members, either in the higher ranks or not, must appear simple and unpretentious.
The official call was written in a circular by the police chief on November 15, 2019, via classified telegram No. ST/30/XI/HUM 3.4/2019/DIVPROPAM. The message specifically mentioned not to show or wear luxurious items in daily life.
Police’s internal affairs explained that the order comes from Law No. 2/2002, Government’s Decree No.2/2003 regarding police’s discipline, Police Chief’s Decree No.14/2011 regarding the institution’s profession code of ethics, and Police Chief’s Decree No.10/2017 upon the ownership of luxurious items.
