TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission V planned to summon leaders from three airliners Garuda Indonesia, Sriwijaya Air, and Lion Air next week for a hearing meeting. The council would also invite National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT) and Transportation Ministry.

The Commission V head Lasarus explained that the summon was in response to several cases in the aviation world for the past year, starting from the jet crash up to dispute between entities. “We call in Lion Air in light of JT 610 crash,” said Lasarus at Parliament Complex, Senayan, Wednesday, November 13.

According to him, the council wanted to be exposed to the KNKT investigation result on the deadly crash of Lion Air JT 610 that claimed hundreds of lives and demanded explanations from the airliner.

KNKT had already completed the probe and the result was published in October 2019.

Meanwhile, the call to Garuda and Sriwijaya Air was related to another dispute in the management partnership of the two groups.

Lasarus assessed that the conflict had beset passengers. “We observe that the dispute caused several flights to be halted, and thousands of people failed to fly when they already purchased tickets,” he said.

The legislative body, he underlined, was determined to anticipate the case from recurrence.

Additionally, Commission V would possibly discuss the airfare hike following complaints voiced by the council members during a meeting with Transportation Ministry on Wednesday about the price of airline tickets that highly jumped ahead of 2019 Christmas and 2020 New Year.
