TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned operator Angkasa Pura II (AP2) is finalizing its plan to expand operations overseas. The company is now eyeing a number of potential airports in African countries Mauritius, Madagaskar, Zanzibar, Tanzania, and Nigeria.

“We are exploring markets for management and development in several countries in Africa, as well as exploring opportunities to manage airports in ASEAN member countries like Thailand," AP 2 president director Muhammad Awaluddin told Bisnis on Monday, October 28.

Angkasa Pura II also participated in the bid for managing Philippines' Clark International Airport in 2018.

Awaluddin said Angkasa Pura II is also looking for world class airport operators as partners to develop and run one of the airports under its management.

"We are currently selecting a number of prospective partners with big names in the global airport industry, to join Angkasa Pura II in developing and managing Kualanamu International Airport (North Sumatra)," he said.

The collaboration of Angkasa Pura II with strategic partners at Kualanamu Airport is expected to increase international and domestic passenger traffic to 20 million passengers in the next 5 years, among other targets.

Angkasa Pura II currently manages 19 airports in Indonesia, including Soekarno-Hatta, one of the busiest airports in the world. Next year, Angkasa Pura II will manage 20 airports with the addition of the Great General Soedirman Airport in Purbalingga, currently under construction.
