TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, welcomes everyone to call him 'Abah', 'Kiai', or vice president. "I'm being called Abah, no problem. Being called Kiai, no problem. Being called vice president, no problem. Combine the three, no problem," Ma'ruf said in a gathering event on Friday, October 25, 2019.
Chief of the Event committee Munifan, admitted that he was previously confused on how to call on Vice President Ma'ruf. Previously, he often referred to Ma'ruf as 'Abah'. However, he was later told by the presidential security guard to call Ma'ruf with the title vice president.
Ma'ruf said that after his inauguration as vice president, many people were confused on how to call on him. Some people called him 'Abah', while others called him 'Kiai' or Vice President. Ma'ruf admitted he did not take such thing into serious concern.
During his speech, Ma'ruf Amin also stated that the challenges faced today are more difficult compared to winning the Presidential Election. The challenges, according to Ma'ruf, will be to shoulder the responsibility to carry out all of the promises to the Indonesian people.
"I think it is true that issues concerning 01 and 02, is finished, it is no more. But all of us are Indonesia," Ma'ruf stated.
Ma'ruf further added that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and himself are the President and Vice President of the Indonesian people, either they support candidate 01 or 02.
Ma'ruf also thanked the volunteers who had supported him during the Presidential Election.
"Thank you for all the volunteers, present or not, for their services, moral support, and material support. Without the support from the volunteers, Pak Jokowi and I might not been elected," Ma'ruf stated.
