TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Yogyakarta regional administration, through its public order agency (Satpol PP) will intensify its efforts later in November to further limit people from smoking in numerous areas within Malioboro and City Hall complex.

This is done to comply with the Regional Government’s Decree No.2/2017 regarding non-smoking areas, such as; hospitals, schools, public parks, houses of prayers, public transport, workplaces, and other areas deemed to see zero tolerance toward cigarette smoking activities.

Head of Yogyakarta City Satpol PP, Agus Winarto, said that the agency will also mobilize female members in its routine patrols that will verbally warn smokers who violate the law.

Agus said that he cannot suddenly impose the law on the entire Malioboro area. “However, we have a priority scale. One of them is in Malioboro and areas in City Hall. Our patrols will remind people that smoking can only be done in areas used especially just for smoking,” he said.

In the Malioboro area, the Yogyakarta administration in conjunction with the health agency will make available three locations as smoking areas.
