TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) suspected a bribery practice of up to Rp1.5 billion following a sting operation launched in East Kalimantan. The bribe was allegedly used to manage the road project in the National Road Agency (BPJN) XII Balikpapan of Public Works and Housing Ministry.

“The total fund amounts to Rp1.5 billion,” said the commission’s spokesman Febri Diansyah in his office, Jakarta, Tuesday, October 15. Febri added that the bribe was delivered by private parties for officials of BPJN Balikpapan.

The anti-graft body suspected that money received by the BPJN Balikpapan head refly Ruddy Tangkere and his staffers were related to the road project worth Rp155 billion. The agency was tasked to plan and procure the project in East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan.

Eight people were nabbed during the sting operation, including Refly, commitment-making officials, and businesspeople. Refly was apprehended in Jakarta and have been brought to KPK headquarters for questioning, while the other seven were arrested in Bontang and Samarinda.
