Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto was attacked by a man holding a knife during the minister's visit to Islamic boarding school Mathla'ul Anwar, Labuan, Banten, on Thursday, October 10, 2019. The perpetrator was immediately caught by the police.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo has dismissed allegations that the attack against Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto was a play.

“There is no way someone is staging a play,” said Dedi at the police headquarters, South Jakarta, Friday, Oct. 11.

On Thursday, Oct. 10, National Mandate Party (PAN) politician Hanum Salsabiela Rais through her Twitter account accused that the stabbing of Wiranto was fabricated.

“It is set-up so the deradicalization funds could be further disbursed. He is looking for attention as he will not be appointed again. He is playing victim, the plot is easily read,” said Hanum Rais, who is the daughter of PAN senior politician Amien Rais. However, she deleted the tweet afterwards.

Wiranto was stabbed with a knife when he was about to depart to Jakarta after visiting the Mathla’ul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Labuan, Banten, Oct. 11.

The attacker was identified as Syahril Alamsyah alias Abu Rara, who was allegedly a member of terrorist group Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) Bekasi. Wiranto has sustained two stab wounds in the abdomen and is now being treated at the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital (RSPAD), Central Jakarta.
