TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The North Sumatra Police have named three suspects linked to the death of environmental activist Golfrid Siregar and are hunting down two more suspects.

Police spokesman Adj. Grand Commissioner Mangantar Pardamean Nainggolan said the three individuals are currently under police custody for allegedly robbing Golfrid.

“It is suspected that these people robbed Golfrid’s belongings by pretending to ask for help,” said Nainggolan to Tempo today, Oct. 11.

He also announced that the two remaining suspects are still being hunted.

According to police, the three suspects stole Golfrid’s belongings such as his wallet, mobile phone, and laptop the Walhi activist carried in his bag at the time of the incident. Mangantar assured that police will announce Golfrid’s cause of death after an autopsy is completed.

The region’s Director of the Indonesian Forum for the Environment (Walhi) says he does not want to speculate about the death but urges police to not quickly come to conclusions as to the cause of Golfrid Siregar’s death.

“We revealed facts that Golfrid’s physical state is not what a person involved in an accident would sustain. His body did not have injuries and his motorcycle was not heavily ruined if compared to the bruise mark around his eyes and the injury to his head,” said the Walhi Director.
