TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 2020 Esports President’s Cup organizing committee head, Giring Ganesha, said that three games including a local one will enter the next year’s competition arena.

"We only played one game in the 2019 Esports President's Cup. But now we can proudly say that this year’s Esports will feature three games including the local," said Giring in Jakarta, Tuesday, October 1.

The last year’s esports was only the popular multiplayer online game Mobile Legends. The number of spectators reached four million.

Meanwhile, this year’s tournament will include the battle royal Free Fire, Pro Evolution Soccer (PES), and one local game that has not been confirmed yet.

"The point is we support the local game industry too because, in my opinion, this tournament is a great moment to promote the work of Indonesian," Giring added.

According to Giring, esports teams from Southeast Asian countries will visit Indonesia to fight for the esports cup, including Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, and Cambodia.

Giring pinned hope the tournament will be the most prestigious championship event in all esports matches across Indonesia, while at the same time will improve the economy and the achievement of the athletes.

The 2020 Esports President’s Cup is supported by governmental institutions such as the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Creative Economy Agency or Bekraf, and the Ministry of Communication and Information. Giring added that this tournament is a concrete form of the government's seriousness in developing the esports ecosystem in Indonesia.
