Jakarta Collects 20.2-ton of Waste after Massive Protest at DPR

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Environment Agency collected 20.2 tons of waste from the demonstration on Monday, September 30, in front of the DPR-MPR building. Agency head Andono Warih said that the rubbish was transported from Central, West, and South Jakarta.

“We collect various types of waste, from food leftover up to stones used during the riot,” said Andono in a statement, Tuesday, October 1.

Andono explained that piles of garbage amounted to 13 tons in Central Jakarta was found around the DPR-MPR building, Manggala Wanabakti, Slipi, Semanggi, Jalan Asia Afrika, Gerbang Pemuda, Tentara Pelajar, Penjernihan, under Pejompongan flyover, and in front of Tanah Abang Sector Police.

Central Jakarta environment agency mobilized 100 personnel, 10 garbage trucks, four pick-up trucks, and 15 road sweeper cars to clean up the post-rally mess.

Meanwhile in West Jakarta, most of the rubbish were found on Jalan Palmerah Utara, S. Parman Bundaran Slipi, S. Parman Tomang Raya, K.S. Tubun, and Jalan Kemanggisan Utama. Sanitary officers collected 6.2 tons of waste containing stones, burnt materials, glass, bottles, and food or beverages leftovers.

“We send 115 personnel to Palmerah. The clean-up project was ended at 04:00 a.m.”

As for the waste in South Jakarta from Monday's rally, the volume reached one ton comprised of stones or debris and food or beverage leftovers spreading on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Gatot Subroto, and Taman Semanggi.
