TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-run electricity firm PLN of Papua and West Papua incurred losses of up to Rp1.9 billion following the string of rally on Thursday, August 29 in the province.

The regional office spokesman Septian Pudjiyanto said on Monday, September 2, that the loss was not included the total undistributed kilowatts because of the outage in Jayapura.

“That is caused by damages in the inter bus transformer (IBT), 20kv medium-voltage substation, and the meter connection in people’s residence due to fire,” Septian explained.

According to him, the company forcibly set a blackout in order to prevent broader destruction. “Several infrastructures are wrecked in some different areas, the worst is in Jayapura Port, Argapura regency, and Entrop regency,” he said.

As of date, Septian claimed the electricity network in Papua has completely returned to normal. “The condition of all substations in Jayapura is safe, and security enforcers stand guards,” Septian said.

When asked about the compensation for those people affected by the Papua unrest, Septian said that he could not yet ensure the matter as it required coordination with several parties.
