TEMPO.CO, Jayapura - The joint officer of National Armed Forces (TNI) and National Police have taken home 298 protesters laying low in Numbay, South Jayapura District, Papua by using military vehicles belonging to the XVII/Cenderawasih Regional Military Command on Sunday, September 1.
“A total of 15 trucks are prepared to repatriate protesters to Abepura and Waena,” said Cendrawasih Military Commander Lieut. Col. CPL Eko Daryanto, Sunday, September 1. One of them was taken to Jayapura City Resort Police for alleged looting.
Those protesters involved in the rally that turned into a riot and hid in Numbay. They who were coming from central mountain areas were afraid to return home to Abepura and its vicinities and laid low for three days.
He added that they fear not only about the rally but also about their alleged looting and violence acts that might trigger revenge by the people who became their looting victims.
The Cendrawasih Military Command’s intelligence assistant to the TNI commander, Col. Inf. Sembiring helped the repatriation after receiving reports from Desmon Kogoya and National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), Eko said.
