TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Traffic Police Directorate Chief Comr. M. Nasir explained cameras of the electronic traffic law enforcement (E-TLE or e-ticketing) could recognize an invalid vehicle's license plate that was massively used to avoid the odd-even policy in the capital.

“When [the cameras recorded] a motorized vehicle committing a traffic violation and the data is not matched with the database from Jakarta, Tangerang, or Bekasi, an alarm will notify that the vehicle data is not registered,” said Nasir to Tempo, Wednesday, August 28.

After the system detects mismatched data, he added, field officers will be informed through handy talky devices to take action conventionally. However, Nasir admitted that many findings on fabricated license plate could not be followed up.

“Because [violators] have already left the location. For example, there is a case in Semanggi, but the driver then makes a turn to somewhere,” he said.

Such a case had been reported by an internet citizen or netizen named Radityo Utomo last July. Through his Twitter account @rdtyou, he claimed to have been ticketed because someone falsified his license plate.

Recently, North Jakarta Police arrested six people on charges of trading fake vehicle registration document (STNK) and vehicle plate number document (TNKB) using official code of Indonesian Army and Police officials, RFD and RFP.

Nasir said the case disclosure resulted from the e-ticketing monitoring that was supported by public complaints via social media platforms.
