TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Yohana Yembise supports Mojokerto’s District Court to chemically castrate child predator Aris (20) after committing a series of sexual abuse against nine children since 2015.

“The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection does not tolerate any form of violence and sexual crimes against children,” said Minister Yohana in a press release on Monday.

She then praised the verdict of the Mojokerto District Court and says it is a legal instrument to protect and provide a sense of justice for child victims in sexual abuse cases. The minister also asserts that this type of punishment is long overdue to be enacted by state law enforcers.

Moreover, Minister Yohana deemed it a step forward that is hoped to be a deterrent for suspects of heinous crimes. “That is an additional punishment enacted after the basic punishment has been given.”

The district court’s panel of judges has officially become the first in Indonesia to hand the castration punishment to suspects of child abuse cases.
