Indonesia Police, Military to Continue with 'Operation Nduga'

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) main headquarters responded to the Nduga administration request for pulling out military and police personnel stationed at the Nduga district.
Polri Head of Public Communication Brigadier General Dedi Prasetyo said that the Police will continue to conduct its operations in the region to maintain security.
"Polri together with the Indonesian Armed Forces [TNI] will continue to provide security, service, and protection for the people of Nduga. Polri will continue to enforce the law without discrimination," said Dedi at his office in South Jakarta on Monday, August 5, 2019.
He argued that the local armed group is still attacking authorities in the area which is securing the Trans Papua construction project.
"OPM themselves continue to attack TNI and police members who are securing the Trans Papua construction," Dedi explained.
Previously, Nduga Regent Yairus Gwijangge requested for the Polri and TNI personnel to be pulled from his area as the prolonged conflict has brought plight to the people in his area. This was expressed in his meeting with House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Bambang Soesatyo on Monday, AUgust 5, 2019.
