TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The widespread power outage that happened on Sunday, August 4, 2019, did not seem to affect the operation of one of Jakarta's tourist magnet Ancol. Around 36,000 visitors were recorded visiting the location as the massive blackout occurred.

"We assured that the entertainment facilities in Ancol continue to operate normally, despite it being powered by electrical generators, but that does not reduce the services we provide," said Agung Praptono, Vice President Corporate Secretary PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol Tbk in a written statement on Monday, August 5, 2019.

He reported that Ancol maintenance teams immediately operated 23 electrical generators stationed across the tourism area that could produce 250 kVA up to 1,250 kVA.

Ancol's Corporate Communication Rika Lestari shared the same sentiment and said that there were no signs suggesting the number of visitors will drop.

The blackout that affected Jakarta, West Java, and Banten occurred after gas distribution to turbine No.1 to No. 6 of the Suralaya power plant operated by state-run electricity company PLN experienced technical difficulties, while another turbine (Turbine No.7) was inoperable.
