Bukalapak Rebuts Rumors of Connection with Radical Groups

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Online marketplace Bukalapak strongly denied the numerous social media allegations that accuse the company of supporting radical groups through public donation.
The marketplace's Head of Corporate Communication Intan Wibisono maintained that their party only associates with certified humanitarian agencies such as the Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT), BAZNAS, Dompet Dhuafa, Rumah Zakat, Rumah Yatim, and Kitabisa.
"The donations are all done in-app," said Intan in a written statement on Tuesday, July 23.
Moreover, the growing online allegation mainly accuses the app of affiliating with radical groups such as ISIS and HTI for using the services of a right-wing ACT body that supports such groups. The e-commerce is also accused of distributing donations to Aleppo City - which is said to be the heart of ISIS headquarters.
“That information is blatantly false and perverted,” said Intan.
She asserts that the donation program held by the e-commerce app is only channeled for education. Bukalapak issues a statement that “deeply regrets” such hoax narrative had spread and urges the public to not believe it.
