U.S. Imposes Sanctions to 5 Indonesians Accused of Supporting ISIS

10 May 2022 16:22 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe United States announced Monday, May 9, 2022, that it imposed sanctions on five Indonesian nationals accused of financially facilitating the Islamic State group or ISIS. They were Dwi Dahlia Susanti, Rudi Heryadi, Ari Kardian, Muhammad Dandi Adhiguna, and Dini Ramadhani.

The five people were also considered to have played a key role in facilitating the travel of extremist jihadist group to Syria and other areas where ISIS operates.

In a statement published on the website of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, quoted on Tuesday, May 10, Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian E. Nelson said the five people and their own network conducted financial transfers to support ISIS efforts in Syria-based refugee camps by collecting funds in Indonesia and Turkey.

“Some of which (the money) were used to pay for smuggling children out of the camps and delivering them to ISIS foreign fighters as potential recruits.”

As the result of Monday's action, any property or assets the five Indonesians have in the U.S. were blocked and those who engage in certain transactions with the sanctioned people could receive secondary sanctions.
