TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission I overseeing communication and information, Evita Nursanty, demanded the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) firmly supervise and take stern action against broadcasting media displaying radical contents. She underlined radicalism eradication required the roles of all sectors, including media watchdogs.

“I urge KPI to step up the monitoring of speeches by extremists and radical lecturers and ulemas,” said Evita during a meeting between the Commission I and the agency at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, July 22.

According to Evita, the agency must strongly warn TV stations that present radical contents. Thus, the agency must first communicate with the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) to obtain data regarding figures who are viewed as radicals.

In response to the PDIP politician’s statement, KPI member Agung Suprio explained his agency had set requirements for a party to earn a show permit, such as an agreement to not display contents against the state ideology of Pancasila and the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

“The show permit can be revoked when there is a violation,” said Agung.
