TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After his passing on Sunday, at the St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital, Guangzhou, China, the body of former National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho is set to be buried today in Boyolali under semi-military funeral honors.
The public farewell to pay Sutopo his last respects will be done twice at his parents’ residence and at the cemetery complex. BNPB head Lt. Gen. Doni Monardo will act as the funeral honors’ inspector at the two locations.
Sutopo’s body was transported to the Sonolayu cemetery at 08:40 Western Indonesia Time (WIB), accompanied by sounds of trumpets while his casket is loaded onto the hearse that will take him to his last resting place.
Upon his passing, Doni said that the BNPB and its entire employees felt an incredible loss. “[Sutopo] is an individual who has major dedication [for his work],” said Doni.
Sutopo Purwo Nugroho passed away at the age of 49 after battling lung cancer for years.
