Train Passengers Rise almost 10pct during Eid Season: KAI

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) recorded a positive trend on passenger traffic during 2019 Eid homecoming season. The corporate public relations vice president Edy Kuswoyo said that throughout D-10 until D+3 of Eid, the number of passengers increased by 9.67 percent compared to that of last year.
“There are 4,428,261 passengers in 2019, while in 2018 was 4,307,654 passengers,” said Edy in a written statement, Sunday, June 9.
The figure was predicted to further increase until the last day of the homecoming return trip that Transportation Ministry estimated to fall on June 13.
On the Day+1 until Day+2, KAI accommodated 791,108 passengers and based on the temporary data, there were 376,235 passengers on the D+3 of Eid.
The hike in passengers number was in line with the provision of additional train cars. KAI provided 50 more trips during the season amounted to 406 trips that 356 of them were of a regular one.
Referred to the Indonesian Online Transportation Information System (Siasati) data, only the number of train and ferry passengers increased during Eid season, while airplane and sea transport passengers dropped by 31.17 percent and 4.9 percent, respectively.
