TEMPO.CO, Denpasar - An earthquake with magnitude 4.1 hit Karangasem, Bali, this morning, June 8. The province’s disaster management agency (BPBD) head Made Rentin said that the quake occurred at 06:51 Central Indonesian Time (WITA).

“We’ve confirmed to BPBD districts and city in Bali in light of the quake this morning. Based on the report from officers in the field, there is no casualty and material loss,” said Rentin in Denpasar, Saturday, June 8.

Rentin hoped the public could maintain vigilance and stay calm as natural disaster could not be predicted. So if a disaster happens, he called all not to panic and follow emergency officers’ direction.

The head of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Area III Denpasar, M Taufik Gunawan, explained the quake epicenter was located at 8.43 degrees south longitude and 115.77 degrees east longitude, or particularly on the sea, 29 kilometers southeast of Karangasem, Bali, at a depth of 26 kilometers.

He underlined that based on the epicenter and hypocenter location, the tremor was a shallow one caused by cesarean activity.

As reported from the people, the earthquake was felt in West Lombok at II SIG-BMKG Level (III MMI) and Amlapura, Klungkung, Mataram at I SIG-BMKG Level (II MMI) and had no potential to trigger a tsunami.

“We appeal to the public to remain calm and not influenced by baseless information,” Taufik asserted.
