TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo said the bomb used to attack the police shelter at the Kartasura Monument junction was of a low-explosive category. The police also said the suicide bomber was an amateur.

“Based on the results of investigation into the crime scene and assessments from the police’s Inafis (Indonesia Automatic Fingerprint Identification) team, the bomb used by the perpetrator was a low explosive,” Dedi said at his office on Tuesday, June 4, 2019.

He explained one of the indicators used to gauge the explosion level was the bomb shrapnel found on the suspect’s body. He added the explosion of the bomb, which was strapped onto the suspect’s body, did not kill him.

Dedi said the police also managed to secure Rofik, the suspect, and sent him to the Bhayangkara Hospital in Semarang, Central Java, for treatment.

Dedi explained the bomb components found in Rofik’s residence were also unsophisticated. From the house, the police’s anti-terror special squad Detachment 88 seized two plastic bags of sulfur, a plastic bag of potassium chloride and mixtures of sulfur and potassium chloride in two Tupperware containers.

The police also found a switch, batteries, white powder, a plastic bag of charcoal, two plastic bags of wires, a nine-volt battery, a pipe, a soldering iron and nails.
