Explosion in South Jakarta's Setiabudi Kills One Person

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - One person died in an explosion in Guntur Setiabudi, South Jakarta, today afternoon, Oct. 18. The source of the explosion is suspected to be a bomb buried in the ground.
Head of the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-Department, Syamsul Arif, said his side received information about the explosion at 1:45 p.m.
“It is suspected that the bomb was buried in the area of Jalan Perahu 02, RT 07 RW 02, Guntur Setiabudi, South Jakarta,” Syamsul told Tempo on Wednesday, Oct. 18.
He said the explosion occurred when a construction worker was digging the land to build a foundation and then hit an object buried in the ground.
“The explosion was heard as far as the urban village office,” he added.
He confirmed that one person was killed in the incident. However, he claimed to have not received any information yet about the identity of the victim. At present, his members are still at the scene.
“We haven't received any information yet. We are still waiting for the police investigation,” Syamsul said. He also did not disclose the location of the incident.
Based on the photos of the explosion scene obtained by Tempo, officers are seen checking the area of soil excavations in a house or building.
