TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Police’s Traffic Directorate recorded some 191,770 residents had left Jakarta by public transport during the year’s homecoming exodus, popularly known as mudik, on Thursday, May 30, 2019, or six days ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holidays.

The travelers departed from airports, train stations and bus terminals. “The second day of the Ketupat Operation [rice cake operation, the security measure during the Eid exodus], with departures from bus terminals, train stations and airports,” said Comr. Muhammad Nasir, the chief of the Law Enforcement Sub-directorate of the Jakarta Police’s Traffic Directorate in his written statement.

Nasir outlined 141,770 people boarded airplanes; 133,981 passengers from Soekarno-Hatta airport and 7,189 passengers from Halim Perdanakusuma airport.

Meanwhile, 24,639 people returned to their hometowns by train; 20,375 departed from Gambir Station, while the rest 4,264 from Senen Station.

As for homecomers traveling by bus, the police recorded 10,504 passengers departed from Kampung Rambutan terminal, 11,700 passengers from Pulogebang, 2,669 passengers from Kalideres Terminal, and 1,088 passengers from Kemayoran Terminal.

Six days before Lebaran, the police also recorded 281,817 private vehicles leaving the capital through highways, viz. Cililitan Toll (73,003 vehicles), Cikunir Toll (31,233 vehicles), Tomang Toll (43,425 vehicles), Cikampek Toll (28,103 vehicles), Halim Toll (28,103 vehicles), and Meruya Toll (42,680 vehicles).

The police deployed over 160,000 joint officers for the 2019 Ketupat Operation starting from May 29 until June 10 in a bid to secure traffic flows during Eid homecoming exodus and returning season, particularly at 898 bus terminals, 379 train stations, 592 ports, 212 airports, 3,097 shopping centers, and 77,217 mosques as well as 3,530 tourist attractions.
