May 22 Rioters Near Bawaslu HQ Start to Disperse

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The mass that had previously rioted and was involved in a clash with law enforcers near the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) on Jalan Wahid Hasyim have begun to disperse on Thursday morning, May 23.

They started to leave the area after Subh prayer at 05:15 Jakarta times towards Tanah Abang area or Jalan Kebon Kacang. Only dozens of people who mostly teenagers stayed.

However, the mass still carried anarchism actions, such as throwing stones or Molotov cocktails to law enforcers but the intensity was lower than earlier today.

Police mobile brigade (Brimob) officers stayed on guard and formed a barricade, closing access to Jalan Wahid Hasyim from two directions. officers also occasionally fired tear gas to disband the mob.

At present, the situation is starting to be conducive. The number of police standing guard is also decreased.

One unit of police truck carrying logistics was seen damaged on Jalan Wahid Hasyim heading to Gondangdia after burnt by rioters.

The mass of May 22 riot staying on Jalan Wahid Hasyim only stood and shouted swearing words, lighting a fire in the intersection of Jalan Sabang and Jalan Wahid Hasyim. During suhoor time, the situation had heated up but nearing Subh prayer the intensity dropped.
