TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Metro Jaya Police public relations officer Senior Commissioner Argo Yuwono said that the May 22 rally dubbed ‘Gerakan Nasional Kedaulatan Rakyat’ at the Elections Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) had gone smoothly in a peaceful manner.
“We are all thankful and mark the end of today’s activities. This means that both the rally participants and police personnel managed to communicate with each other and was able to be resolved,” said Argo at the location of the rally at MH. Thamrin Street on May 21.
Furthermore, Argo announced that police personnel will continue to guard tomorrow’s main rally on Wednesday, May 22.
He says that no additional personnel will be mobilized to the locations and will remain the same as it was today. “We prepared around 50,000 personnel just as we did today.”
The protesters gathered in front of the Bawaslu headquarters in an attempt to reveal the election frauds that they claim were evident throughout the 2019 general elections. They also demanded the disqualification of presidential and vice presidential candidate Joko “Jokowi” Widodo – Ma’ruf Amin.
The rally started at around 14:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) and lasted to 20:30 WIB where people started to disperse from the location in the heart of downtown Jakarta.
