TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi shared tips for homecoming or `mudik` travelers passing Cikarang Utama toll road until Brebes Barat toll road, Central Java. A one-way traffic policy will be applied in this 263-kilometer toll road.

Budi Karya underlined travelers must know that Cikarang Utama toll gate will be divided into two; Cikarang Utama toll road KM 70 and Kalihurip Utama toll road KM 67.

"We part it into two. Vehicles heading to Semarang will pass the tollgate at Cikarang Utama KM 70, while the tollgate for vehicles heading to Bandung will be at Kalihurip toll road KM 68. They have to be ready to take a right turn and pass a special lane," said the minister on Sunday, May 19.

He added homecomers should fulfill their gas considering the long road and the rest area will reportedly be fully packed.

"This one-way road begins from KM 29 until KM 263. There are indeed 10 rest areas and four others, but those are not adequate. So it's better to prepare enough fuel gas until Semarang. Don't expect to fill gas on the way."

Budi Karya further appealed to mudik travelers to use the rest area for emergency purposes and mind the time. He also suggested them to take a rest outside toll roads for more flexible time.

The one-way traffic policy will start from Cikarang Utama toll road (KM 29) until Brebes Barat (KM 263) on May 30 - June 2 for 24 hours in a bid to reduce traffic density from Jakarta towards Central Java. The policy will also be implemented during the return period from Palimanan toll road (KM 189) until Cikarang Utama toll road (KM 29) on June 8-10.

During this year’s homecoming season, Trans Java toll road connecting Merak, Banten until Pasuruan, East Java will be operable. The 933-kilometer road is said to slash 50 percent of travel time, shorter than that of via non-toll road.
