TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The lawyer of Eggi Sudjana, Damai Hari Lubis, demanded clarification from Jakarta Metro Police who initially charged his client as a suspect for alleged provocation of people power to a treason attempt.

"In the first investigation report (BAP), Eggi is reported with Article 160 [of the Criminal Code] on provocation, how come [his status] changes as a suspect for treason? We don’t know about this and we ask for clarification," said Damai in Jakarta Metro Police, South Jakarta, Monday, May 13, 2019.

The politician of National Mandate Party (PAN) was reported by Supriyatno, a volunteer of Jokowi-Ma'ruf Center (Pro Jomac) with Article 160 of Criminal Code on provocation following Eggi’s call for people power. Meanwhile, for the suspect naming, Eggi was charged with Article 107 of the Criminal Code on treason.

Damai questioned whether there was a new report related to his client’s call for people power. Besides, Eggi had never been probed in a treason case yet.

The attorney then proposed a pretrial for Eggi's status to South Jakarta District Court. Damai also demanded the postponement in the investigation until the pretrial. "Wait for the pretrial, whether the status determination is legitimate or not," he underlined.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Metro Police asserted the suspect naming of Eggi Sudjana was based on the procedure and had met requirements. The police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said the status determination was based on testimonies of witnesses, experts, and evidence.

"The initial evidence includes statements from six witnesses, four experts, and video footages as well as media reports," said Argo a few days ago.
