Police Hold Special Operation to Curb Street Crime during Ramadan

TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - The Jakarta Police runs the 'Pekat Jaya 2019' special operation to enhance security during the Ramadan . The operation approved by the Metro Jaya Chief of Police on May 6, aims at curbing street crimes and thuggery.
"The operation will last 15 days from May 7 to 21," Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said in a written statement, Tuesday, May 7.

Argo said that the police will place a total of 478 officers on duty during the operations period. Among the street crimes and acts of thuggery the police aim to curb are mugging, pickpocketing, crime by hypnosis, violent debt collecting, gambling, and others.
The police will also hold a raid and search suspicious people for items that can be used for or encourage acts of crimes. The operation will also include supervision and monitoring on former convicts.
