TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Bambang Soesatyo agreed to revise the Indonesia election law (UU Pemilu) in an effort to improvise the election process. One of the revisions that must be made on Law No. 7 of 2017, according to Bambang, is to separte the process of the legislative and the presidential election.

"I agree for [the election] to be reverted as it was previously. The legislative elections and the presidential election would be held in a separate time with a maximum 3-month campaign period," said Bambang in Jakarta on Thursday, April 25, 2019.

According to the Speaker, there are several weaknesses in implementing the simultaneous general elections such technical complexity, and difficulty for voters to choose their candidate.

The Golkar Party politician also said that the added workload of a simultaneous election has burdened organizers, which is the Voting Organizer Committee (KPPS). Bambang added that the recent deaths of KPPS members is one of many examples of such burden.
