Sofyan Basir Named Graft Suspect; PLN Ensures Steady Services

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned electricity company PLN ensured the corporate will maintain its professionality in catering Indonesians despite its president director Sofyan Basir named suspect of a graft case by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

The senior vice president of corporate legal PLN, Dedeng Hidayat, asserted the incident will not disrupt his company’s service system.

“In the wake of this case, PLN assures the public service will continue running as normal,” said Dedeng in a written statement on Tuesday, April 23.

Dedeng said the corporate board will be cooperative should the anti-graft body need assistance in the legal proceedings.

Moreover, PLN will respect the legal process that is involving its executive. “We entrust all legal processes to KPK that will act professionally and proportionally,” Dedeng said. Even so, he added, PLN will put forth the presumption of innocence.

The KPK named Sofyan Basir who served as PLN president director since 2014 suspect after his alleged assistance in the PLTU Riau-1 graft case involving House of Representatives’ (DPR) Energy Commission deputy Eni Maulani Saragih and Johannes Budisutrisno Kotjo, the shareholder of Blackgold Natural Resources.
