TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry (Kemenhub) announced it will pay close attention to the prices of flight tickets up to the 2019 Ramadan holiday.

Minister Budi Karya Sumadi caught a sense of insincerity from air carriers and how the industry implemented the tariff cuts, especially based on the tariff cut in the 42nd commemoration of state-owned enterprise today.

“That is why is deem air carriers [Garuda] have not been sincere, dishonest. We must speak honestly and openly toward society. It would spark different kinds of interpretation,” said Budi Karya on Wednesday.

He stressed that air transport must be the second alternative to land transports during the 2019 Ramadan holiday and that it should be known as an alternative with better tariff. Minister Budi also demanded air carriers to provide a tariff that could be received by a large portion of Indonesian people.

Minister Budi Karya asserts that the government will introduce a mandatory sub-price if air carriers fail to create certainty with the sub-prices they currently offer.
