TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has sent Eni Saragih to the Tangerang Children and Women's Penitentiary. Eni is a convicted felon in the bribery case in the Riau-1 Power Plant project.

"The convict was put behind bars at the Tangerang Children and Women's Class 2-B Prison on Tuesday, March 26, 2019," KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said in a written statement, Thursday, March 28.

Eni, the former Deputy Chair of House of Representatives' (DPR) Energy Commission, was sentenced to six years. She is also ordered to pay a fine of Rp200 million, which is substitutable with an additional two months of incarceration.

The judges also revoked her political rights for three years and ordered her to pay a compensation fee of Rp5.08 billion and US$40,000.

Eni Saragih was convicted of accepting a bribe of Rp4.75 billion from Johannes Budisutrisno Kotjo, a shareholder of Blackgold Natural Resources Limited. The money was given to her to help secure the company a contract in the Riau Power Plant project.

The Golkar Party politician was also convicted of receiving gratuities from a number of other entrepreneurs, most of whom are business actors in the oil and gas sector.

According to the prosecutors, Eni used part of the money to finance her political party activities. In addition, Eni Saragih used the money to fund her husband's campaign when he was running for the regent's elections in Temanggung.
